Saica Advances Circular Packaging with Market-First Recycled Paper Tape

Industry News

Saica Group has launched a 100% recycled paper adhesive tape designed to be fully repulpable, supporting more circular paper and packaging operations.

What’s New

Saica Group has launched the first recycled paper adhesive tape on the market, developed jointly by Saica Flex and Saica Paper. The new tape is made entirely from 100% recycled fibres sourced within the Group, creating a closed-loop circular solution: recycled paper is turned into adhesive tape, then used to protect Saica Paper’s reels and ultimately repulped again.

The tape is self-adhesive, linerless, compatible with standard reel-wrapping machines, and adheres reliably to paper and cardboard.

Why This Matters

Traditional adhesive tapes - especially those used in paper and packaging operations - are often non-repulpable, meaning they can’t be reclaimed in recycling streams. This limits circularity and undermines sustainability goals.

Saica’s new tape overcomes this challenge by ensuring the material can be fully repulped for fibre recovery, significantly boosting the circular credentials of an often-overlooked packaging component.
Beyond recyclability, the tape integrates into existing equipment without requiring changes or investment, making it easier for operations to adopt sustainably without disrupting workflows. Saica sees this as just the first step in applying recycled paper technology to broader uses - a potential catalyst for more circular, flexible paper solutions across the industry.

Who Should Care

Packaging specifiers & mill managers → Repulpable tape supports truly circular fibre recovery without compromising operational performance.

Sustainability & ESG teams → A practical step toward improving recyclability and reducing waste in paper-based packaging systems.

Paper & converting operations → Designed to work with existing machinery, making adoption easier without costly process changes.

Brands & OEMs → A scalable alternative to traditional tapes and closures, helping strengthen circular packaging strategies.
